Events

Beta chapter of Chi Delta Theta strives to endorse our five main pillars: Sisterhood, Academics, Cultural Awareness, Community Service, and Social Activity. Every year we organize certain events to help promote these ideals that our founders established.

LANTERN FESTIVAL

Lantern Festival is an annual event that Chi Delta Theta, Beta Chapter, co-hosts with the gentlemen of Omega Xi Delta. It is held during the spring quarter and is aimed to raise awareness to Asian and Pacific Islander culture and to encourage all other cultural organizations to showcase the diversity that Cal Poly brings. Normally held on Cal Poly’s campus, we work hard to decorate the University Union Plaza according to the theme of that certain year! Other cultural organizations on campus are invited to set up booths to sell cultural foods that are difficult to find in the City of San Luis Obispo. During this event, there are various cultural performances that range from dancing to singing to drumming or step shows. Best of all, the event is free for everyone to attend and enjoy! Oftentimes, our families, friends, and other Chi Delta Theta chapters come out to support us and participate in the festivities.

ASIAN PACIFIC ISLANDER DESI-AMERICAN COMMENCEMENT

Asian Pacific Islander Desi-American Commencements  (APIDA) is held at the end of the year before Spring graduation. We host a specific commencement for Asian Pacific Islanders Desi-Americans and invite all the graduating seniors of any cultural organization to participate. Although this commencement is geared towards Asian Pacific Islanders Desi-Americans, this does not mean it is only limited to people within that culture. It is open to all graduating seniors at Cal Poly. During this event, we recognize all the graduating seniors and provide food and guest speakers to present individuals with awards as well as recognize any special achievements. Because the ceremony is significantly smaller than the college commencements, this allows friends and family members to see their loved ones stand out. Anyone is allowed to come and there is no admission or fee to participate.
